  • Inspiration

Ruben Amorim has revealed how he was inspired by club legends to try and create a special night like this at Man United.

The United boss told TNT Sports on the pitch post-match: "The sounds of the stadium was the best ever.

"Some people collect shirts, scarves, but I want to keep that sound, it's the best sound in the world."

Amorim continued: "I was watching the 1999 [Treble] documentary to have some inspiration for these moments.

"It was a great night, the team were tired, 4-2 with one more player, we think it's over, but here it's never over.

"Here, everything is possible, you feel the environment.

"At 4-3, after the Bruno Fernandes penalty, we felt we could change the game."

  • 'An amazing feeling'

Man United's hero Harry Maguire has been speaking to TNT Sports after a memorable European night.

The centre-back said: "Obviously it's an incredible game, we made really hard work of it.

"We had full control in the second half, had chances to score a third, then they scored out of nowhere. It put us on the back foot.

"To go down 4-2 in extra-time to 10 men is not good enough, we opened ourselves too much.

"But we dug in and showed great spirit, that's what this stadium does."

On his goal, Maguire added: "The fourth goal for them was a sucker punch but that we'd get chances to get back into it.

"It fell to me and thankfully I scored, it was an amazing feeling."

  • Relief and rejoice

The Man United players and fans went through it all tonight.

It was the definition of a rollercoaster at Old Trafford.

Here are a few more pictures of the unbelievable scenes.

Some Red Devils collapsed to the floor at full-time while others sprinted around and celebrated with fans.

No one connected with the club will forget this night in a hurry.

  • 'Have a listen to this'

Imagine being a Man United fan who left early?

After Alexandre Lacazette made it 4-2 on aggregate in extra time, the tie looked to be dead and buried.

So, plenty got up and departed Old Trafford, admitting defeat.

However, three goals in the second half of extra time completely turned the game on its head and Lyon crumbled.

That has to be one of the best European moments ever and some United fans will have missed it all.

And Joshua Zirkzee, who was sitting in the stands after missing out through injury, had a message to those supporters.

Zirkzee posted a video of the atmosphere inside Old Trafford with the caption reading: "To all the fans who left when we were down. Have a listen to this."

Man United manager Ruben Amorim has also mentioned those fans, saying post-match: "I feel for the people who left at 2-4 because of the traffic."

  • History-making

Man United have just saved their season.

And you won't see a more dramatic way to do so.

Harry Maguire’s goal was the first 120th-minute winning goal scored in UEFA Europa League history.

It was also the first in a major European tie since Atletico Madrid beat Liverpool at Anfield in March 2020.

On top of that, this match is the first game in major European football history to see five goals scored after extra-time.

    Incredible scenes.

  • Man United go through!

    WOW. WOW. WOW.

It's a historic win for Manchester United.

    That was simply incredible.

Two goals in the dying seconds of extra time at Old Trafford send Man United through to the Europa League semi-finals.

Alex Crook live on talkSPORT: "This has to be one of the most dramatic nights Old Trafford has ever seen."

Hugh Woozencroft: "That just defies all football logic."

    CAN YOU BELIEVE ITTTTTTTTTT!

MAN UNITED HAVE EQUALISED IN THE 119TH MINUTE!!!!!

KOBBIE MAINOO FINISHES TO SEND OLD TRAFFORD MENTAL!

It's such a good goal, as Mainoo takes one touch and cuts inside before smashing in!

  • Late chaos

Old Trafford is going crazy now.

Man United have an appeal for another penalty waved away.

Harry Maguire is pulled down in the area by Moussa Niakhate and there are huge shouts for a spot-kick.

VAR takes a look and decides there is no foul there.

We have three minutes left for United to score.

  • GOAL! Man United 3-4 Lyon (5-6): Bruno Fernandes

    BRUNO FERNANDES SCORES!

The Man United captain rushes to grab the ball and reignite some hope for the Red Devils.

They HAVE to score again to save themselves.

Those who have left Old Trafford already may regret that.

    Game. On. Again.

  • ANOTHER PENALTY!

    MAN UNITED HAVE A LIFELINE!

THEY HAVE A PENALTY WITH EIGHT MINUTES TO GO!

If Bruno Fernandes scores this, they're back in it.

What an ending we could have here.

  • VAR check...

    HANG ON!

Man United may have a penalty here!

Casemiro goes down in the box and seems to have taken a kick to the bottom of the boot.

The referee will be going to the VAR screen...

  • GOAL! Man United 2-4 (4-6) Lyon: Alexandre Lacazette

    THAT WILL BE GAME OVER!

ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE WINS IT FOR LYON!

    Old Trafford falls completely silent.

Man United were 2-0 up at half time, but they're now 4-2 down as we enter the final stages of extra time.

This is a horror night for the Red Devils.

Lianne Sanderson live on talkSPORT: "Positionally, they've been all over the place.

"Fonseca has given Amorim a lesson tactically tonight."

  • PENALTY!

    LYON HAVE A PENALTY!

Man United are going to be heading out!

Luke Shaw brings down Malick Fofana in the box.

There's hardly a complaint and Shaw is booked.

United's season is about to come crashing down...

  • Last chance

So, it's 15 minutes to save your season, Man United.

Harry Maguire is up front for the Red Devils.

Can they somehow fight back to take this to penalties?

Hugh Woozencroft live on talkSPORT: "This Man United team are an embarrassment.

"Dictated two by a team with ten men. They're getting a lesson in fight, spirit."

  • Halfway mark

    Well, who'd have expected this?

Man United were 2-0 up at half time in normal time and they looked to be cruising through to the semi-finals.

But they've completely crumbled and they're now behind.

Lyon have 10 men, yet they're leading at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim has 15 minutes to save his side's season.

  • GOAL! Man United 2-3 (4-5) Lyon: Rayan Cherki

LYON HAVE STRUCK IN EXTRA TIME!

    WOW! WOW! WOW!

The ten men of Lyon are leading Man United!

Malick Fofana charges down the left on the break and he's tackled before the ball deflects to Rayan Cherki on the edge.

Cherki then takes on touch and fires into the bottom corner.

Lianne Sanderson live on talkSPORT: "It's embarrassing. This should not be happening at all.

"The substitutions they've made have hindered them."

  • Double change

    Ruben Amorim freshens things up.

Teenager Harry Amass comes on for Patrick Dorgu while Christian Eriksen replaces Alejandro Garnacho.

We're nearing the end of the first half of extra time.

Lyon have still had the only shot of the added period, with Man United struggling to create.

A reminder that the French side are down to ten men...

United need to liven up if they want to go through.

  • Underway again...

Man United and Lyon are back in action.

Can the Red Devils keep fighting to win this?

Their heads dropped after losing their two-goal lead, but the Lyon red card seemed to boost them again.

However, in extra time so far, it's the French side who are making the most impact in the final third.

They've been the better team at Old Trafford.

  • Tottenham go through!

    SPURS HAVE WON IT!

THEY'RE INTO THE EUROPA LEAGUE SEMI-FINALS!

Ange Postecoglou's side hang on to their 1-0 lead and win 2-1 on aggregate in Germany.

It means the Australian's job is safe for now!

They will be taking on either Lazio or Bodo/Glimt.

Dean Ashton live on talkSPORT: "The pride on Ange Postecoglou's face. He's always said about winning trophies in his second season.

"And maybe for one night, he can smile about getting one over those who are doubting him."

  • Hanging on...

Tottenham are on the brink here.

We're into the final seconds of their tie in Germany.

If they can hold on, they're into the Europa League semis.

Cristian Romero has just been down having treatment, which means a few more minutes are getting added on a the end...

  • Extra time

It's all over at Old Trafford!

Man United have been taken to extra time by Lyon.

Their Europa League hopes will rest on another half an hour.

Ruben Amorim will feel this shouldn't have come to this after having a two-goal advantage with 20 minutes to go.

But they've thrown it away and the tie continues.

  • Game-changing?

Wow, how big of an impact could this make?!

Corentin Tolisso has been sent off for Lyon!

The midfielder clips Leny Yoro and receives his second yellow card to reduce the French side to 10 men.

We're now into five minutes of added time.

But if this goes to extra time now, Man United will fancy themselves against a tired 10-man Lyon side.

  • On the brink

Spurs are closing in on the Europa League semi-finals.

At half time, you'd have expected a much more tense affair in Germany, but it's Old Trafford that has all the drama.

The Man United fans are quiet as we enter the last five minutes, with nerves clear to see on their faces.

Ruben Amorim's side have thrown their lead away and extra-time could well be on the cards.

For Tottenham, they've only got minutes to hang on now.

They're getting deeper and deeper as they defend their lead.

  • Final stages

For Tottenham, the nerves must be through the roof.

They remain 1-0 up against Frankfurt and 2-1 up on aggregate.

And heading into the last 10 minutes, they're set to go through.

It's a huge final few moments for Ange Postecoglou.

At Old Trafford, Man United are trying to fight back after throwing away their lead against Lyon.

The Red Devils fans are voicing their frustration.
