Brad Friedel says £24m Arsenal player has to leave in summer transfer window

Brad Friedel has named the Arsenal player who is too good to be sitting on the bench and has urged him to leave the Emirates Stadium in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal are having a very good season and could still win the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

However, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is likely to make changes to his squad in the summer transfer window.

One of the areas that the Gunners are actively looking at improving is upfront. Arsenal want to sign a new striker.

Arteta will also have to make a decision on his goalkeepers. David Raya is the number one between the posts, and he is expected to make his loan deal from Brentford permanent.

Aaron Ramsdale urged to leave Arsenal

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Friedel has urged Aaron Ramsdale to leave Arsenal at the end of the season.

The pundit has said that the 25-year-old goalkeeper is too good to be sitting on the bench for Arsenal.

Friedel said about Ramsdale on Sky Sports News, as transcribed by Metro: “I think the stats back Mikel Arteta’s decision. I mean, it’s close. We’re talking about two fantastic goalkeepers.

“I think when you look at the stats – and they’re non-subjective stats so it’s not just about who we like better – the biggest difference is David Raya’s shot-preventing value.

“It’s remarkable how quick his feet are when he’s coming out for crosses or sweeping up. That really separated him from Aaron Ramsdale and with the way Arsenal play that might be the tipping point of why they prefer Raya.

“Listen, there’s going to come a time where they are going to have to let Ramsdale go. If Raya is the long-term number one, they’ll have to let Ramsdale go.

“I think the stats back Arsenal’s faith in Raya and that’s fine, but Ramsdale is too good to be sitting on the bench.

“He should be playing somewhere and I’m sure he’ll be able to find a place to go. They’re two very, very talented goalkeepers.”

Aaron Ramsdale is in demand

Aaron Ramsdale may not be getting much playing time at Arsenal at the moment, but the England international goalkeeper has interest from other top clubs in the Premier League.

Ramsdale did relatively well during his time at Bournemouth and Sheffield United before moving to Arsenal in 2021 for £24 million (The Athletic).

HITC revealed in February that Ramsdale is ready to leave Arsenal in the summer transfer window because he does not want to spend another season playing second fiddle to David Raya.

Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Ramsdale, despite having Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka on their books.

Chelse are also keen on the Arsenal goalkeeper. HITC revealed in February that the Blues are willing to sell Robert Sanchez and are considering bringing in Ramsdale as his replacement.
