Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has revealed his preferred winner from Manchester City's title showdown with Arsenal this weekend.

Defending Premier League champions City are just a point behind the Gunners at the top of the table ahead of Sunday's crucial clash.

Carragher's former side Liverpool are also in the title hunt, above Pep Guardiola's men and trailing Arsenal only on goal difference.

The Reds host Brighton at Anfield before the Etihad showdown, hoping to capitalise on one or both of their rivals dropping points.

Carragher has now admitted he's supporting Arsenal, with a City victory potentially proving fatal to Jurgen Klopp's chances.

When asked by Gary Neville whether he wants the Gunners to win on the Overlap Fan Debate, Carragher replied: “Yes, but I think even if Man City lose that game on Sunday, they can still win the league.

“They can still win the league if they lose. I think if Arsenal get beat, I don’t see how they win the league.

“For Liverpool, surely you want City to lose but I actually think they could still win the league after that.

“I don’t see Arsenal winning the league if they get beat.

“From Liverpool’s point of view then you’re only fighting against one team for the title.

“I know points-wise it won’t make much of a difference but I just think psychologically it would really affect Arsenal if City jump above them, especially as you’d expect Liverpool to beat Brighton at home and then they’re above Arsenal too.

“I think it would be tough for Arsenal to come back from that.”

Arsenal have won all eight of their top-flight games of 2024, but Mikel Arteta's men haven’t won away at the Etihad since 2015.

This fixture during the run in the 22/23 campaign proved to be Arsenal’s undoing in last season’s title race, as Arsenal were beat 4-1.

And Neville agreed with his co-host Carragher that City would be heavy favourites to claim a fourth title in a row if they win again.

He added: “If Man City win on Sunday, I’m not saying it’s game over but it would be very difficult for Arsenal and Liverpool.

“Given City’s experience and the run they’re on, it would be very difficult.”
