Leeds United “very interested” in young Juventus forward

According to TuttoJuve.com, Leeds United “would be very interested in Stephy Mavididi, the Juventus Under-23 player. The 21-year-old Derby-born forward transferred to La Vecchia Signora from Arsenal in mid-August last year.

TuttoJuve’s brief article comes on the back of an article by TEAMtalk from four days ago which placed the Whites amidst a pack of Premier League sides such as Everton, Newcastle and Southampton with Championship sides Fulham, Derby and Middlesbrough making it an alomst free-for-all.

The move hasn’t gone the way of all shining stars and glittering pavements for Mavididi, who has found himself largely playing in the Under-23s at the Aliianz Stadium, featuring just once for 21 minutes for the first team in a 2-1 Serie A loss to SPAL.

The former Arsenal youth player featured in 32 Serie C-A games for Juve’s Under-23s last season, scoring six goals and adding one assist. He also featured in two Coppa Serie C games, scoring once.

Whilst not featuring extensively at Arsenal, he did spend time out on loan in the league system in England, spending time at Preston North End in the Sky Bet Championship (11 games) and Charlton Athletic in Sky Bet League One (20 games, two goals and one assist).

TuttoJuve’s article says that Mavididi “really likes Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa” and goes on to add that “the club would be ready to make an offer” to Juve for his services.

However, given the options that Leeds United have, and with 19-goal Ryan Edmondson bubbling under first team level after a great Under-23 campaign last season, a move for Mavididi does seem a tad strange to say the least. Yet, as Whites fans will be quick to tell you, stranger things have happened at Elland Road though.
