Ian Wright hails £30m Arsenal star who ‘put on a show’ during 5-0 win over Chelsea

Well, that’s one way to dispatch your rivals because Arsenal humiliated Chelsea on Tuesday night at the Emirates.

Back in 2014, Chelsea put six goals past their London rivals in what was Arsene Wenger’s 1000th game for the club.

Well, years later, it was time for Arsenal fans to feel that elation and revel in their rivals’ despair and demise.

A five-star showing from Mikel Arteta’s men, with Leandro Trossard opening the scoring and Ben White and Kai Havertz both scoring braces.

This performance from the Premier League title-chasers was far different from the 2-0 defeat they suffered against Aston Villa last time they played at home.

Against Villa, when Martin Odegaard was subbed off, the goals rolled in for the away team to the annoyance of the home crowd.

But this time around, Odegaard played the entire match, helped himself to two assists and impressed Ian Wright, as he told Premier League Productions (23/04/24 at 10:25 pm).

The legendary striker claimed that the £30 million signing was ‘putting on a bit of a show’, especially after the second goal went in at the start of the second half.

After that, Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea had no answer and they simply couldn’t respond to the blows they were taking.

Martin Odegaard shines again for Arsenal

“Once Arsenal got going again and started playing again, and obviously after the second goal, you could see them get a fresh impetus to go again,” said Wright.

“Odegaard started doing his bit. It looked like he was putting on a bit of a show. There was movement and the Chelsea players were deflated. Then it was a case of how many could they score.”

Martin Odegaard leading by example

You have to say that Odegaard is perhaps one of the most watchable players in the Premier League.

The 25-year-old might not be a vocal captain, but one thing is for sure, he talks when he is on the ball.

His ability to control the ball, thread passes through and see passes that others don’t in tight situations is pretty incredible.

There is a reason why he was a wonderkid and on Real Madrid’s books as a teenager because all of that is now coming to fruition.
