England Women's star Georgia Stanway has hinted at a new venture in tattooing once her playing days are over.

The Lionesses star is no stranger to tattoos having been inked on more times than she cares to remember.

The Bayern Munich star has been creating a stir since arriving in Bavaria in 2022 and has netted six times for the club.

But off the pitch she is enjoying learning the art of tattooing accompanied by friend and shop owner Linus.

“It’s been going good,” Stanway told BBC Sport when asked about her new-found venture. “It’s gotten more serious over the last weeks.

“I’ve always had an interest in tattooing, I’ve got a lot myself and it’s always something I’ve liked in terms of the way they look and planning and finding new designs.”

Stanway called time on her Manchester City career after seven seasons at the club. She admits that a move abroad appealed most so that she could realise a burning desire of experiencing a new culture.

“I moved to Munich after the Euros because I was ready for something new,” Stanway added. “One thing I wanted to do was to experience a new culture.

“I’m so happy with the decision that I made to come here. I love my role within the team and off the pitch as well. I feel like I’ve just found my home.

“When I came to Munich, the first thing I did was try to find a tattoo store. It is quite lonely when you move abroad. I’m not somebody who talks about their feelings too much.

“I’m not the most creative in terms of drawing but I like the idea of doodling and characters.”

Stanway was handed the opportunity to deliver her first ever tattoo on skin in front of the BBC cameras.

Linus kindly offered up a section of his leg for the midfielder to practise her skills and she admitted her nerves far outweighed those displayed on a football pitch.

“This is way more nerve-wracking,” she said. “Usually, I’m out on the field with 11 other people with people cheering from the sides but at this moment, I feel so alone.

“Linus is the guy who has taught me from the very beginning so it just feels right that he would be the person to be tattooed.

“Tattooing has become a big part of my life because it’s almost like an escape from football. In football you can end up in your own bubble and find yourself constantly thinking about it.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling to get to this point. For someone to give their body up for me. It’s a special feeling and I massively appreciate it.”
